Founded in 1959, it is a large-scale state-owned engineering design and consulting agency of Chengdu. Formerly known as "Chengdu Design Institute", it was officially renamed as "Chengdu architectural design and Research Institute" in June 1991.

CDAD has the national construction industry class A, urban and rural planning class A, landscape engineering design special class A, municipal industry class B, architectural decoration engineering design and construction class II, engineering consulting class C, engineering project management class C and other qualifications.
